When people ask me about the Speedrun Hall of Fame, the question I get the most is “How will the elections work? Will you pick runners? What about…?” And then, the question tends to get more varied. Folks tend to ask all sorts of questions about randomizer players, TAS’ers, strat hunters, glitch finders, marathon runners, slothrunners, and more. Other regions of the world, such as Japan, have a very unique and defined speedrunning culture that tended to, in the past, exist outside of the speedrunning bubble dominated by the United States, Europe, and Russia.
It got us to thinking: why can’t we celebrate speedruns? Why can’t we celebrate TASes, races, specific moments in time? Sure, it’s easy to say out loud, “Golly, I wish (so-and-so) would get into the Hall… and did you ever see their GDQ run? Or their race against that other person?” What do we celebrate? The runner? The run itself? The strat that got us there? And that’s where Phenomenal Feats comes in.

The Speedrun Hall of Fame is proud to announce “Phenomenal Feats”: a secondary hall that celebrates all the rest. While the main Hall Gallery is for the greatest speedrunners of all-time, the hall of Phenomenal Feats is meant to archive the rest of speedrun history. For example, the first-ever CGDQ… or the first-ever competitive WR… or even still, perhaps the first-ever speedrun? The sky is the limit, and this will allow us to bring many more folks, moments, and more into the public eye so that future generations may remember these events like we do today.
While the main Hall will only hold (for now) one election per year, Phenomenal Feats will elect a new moment once a month, every month. So stay tuned! After November 1, 2022, you’ll be able to elect your favorite phenomenal feats… and even nominate your own! Together, we can celebrate ALL of speedrunning history!
